rincipal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Convert existing SQL scripts and PL/SQL stored procedure code to migrate from Oracle to Postgres
- Write high quality and well-documented database code according to accepted standards based on user requirements using PL/pgSQL
- Participate in the technical aspects of the software solution through the full life-cycle of the project including requirements, design, implementation, security, testing and maintenance.
- Conduct design, code reviews, and unit tests to ensure high quality end product, advocating and adhering to the software development best practices.
- Collaborate with the QA team to deploy database to private or public clouds.
- Take initiative in discovering existing and new challenges pertaining to development environment, seeking to improve, resolve, and streamline tools and processes to meet delivery challenges.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems quickly and creatively, while considering the customer’s perspective and business impacts on the proposed solutions.
Years of Work Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in database development
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent with professional background
Required Skills:
- Proficient in Postgres database design, modeling, and development, using SQL.
- Experience with Postgres PL/pgSQL programming (Stored Procedures, Triggers, Views).
- Ability to improve performance of high-volume/high-availability of a Postgres DB.
- Good understanding of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL to be able to convert Oracle code to Postgres.
- Experience with scripting languages (Bash, KornShell) on a variety of computing platforms (Windows, Linux).
- Experience with configuration management tools (SVN, GIT).
- Knowledge of DB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as SQL Developer.
- Experience with Unit testing and performance testing.
- Ability to work with resources in different time-zones.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with database deployment on public cloud virtual machines (VM) such as Azure cloud.
- Good knowledge of the Agile process e.g. SCRUM.
- Knowledge of Cloud based DB i.e. DBaaS.
- Knowledge of continuous integration practices and build processes (e.g. Jenkins).
- Knowledge of Java (or any other O-O programing languages) is an asset
